Chrome 3rd-party cookie deprecation is not an issue

The recent announcement from Chrome about the deprecation of support for 3rd-party cookies may seem an issue; however, it is not. This transition has been underway for some time.

Safari and Firefox took similar steps back in 2021, affecting a significant portion of online traffic. Now, Chrome is gradually following this, with only 1% of users expected to experience this change in Q1 of 2024.

On the official website, Google says the following:

  • “Chrome will deprecate third-party cookies for 1% of Chrome users globally.”

  • “Chrome will begin gradually phasing out support for third-party cookies in Q3, 2024.”

However, it's becoming obvious that for precise tracking, a shift towards Server-to-Server (S2S) tracking is necessary.

Who is affected by this 3rd-party cookie deprecation?

Offers with integration methods such as Image, iFrame, or JavaScript (JS) may be impacted. JS integration may continue to function correctly only if both the landing and success pages reside on the same domain.

How to identify integrations used in your offers?

To identify which integrations are used in your offers, do the following:

  1. Go to Statistics > Server postbacks, and in the Postback parameters column, check your postbacks for indicators like "pixel=1".

  2. Go to Offers > a certain offer > Edit offer > Postbacks and manually review postback for integration type details.

If none of your offers rely on Image or iFrame integrations, you're unaffected. Affise recommends to avoid these methods in future integrations to avoid potential issues.

What to do if some of my offers use Image, iFrame, or JavaScript integration?

Option 1: Use the S2S integration, offering advertisers to switch for more precise tracking.

🔎 Use our SDK for a streamlined process (SDK makes S2S integration 10x faster):

Option 2: Consider JS pixel integration, but be aware of its limitations regarding cross-domain tracking.

Affise recommends migrating towards S2S integration for its accuracy, reliability, and security against browser changes. By following these steps, you can manage the transition with no issues and ensure seamless affiliate marketing operations.
